Gear lever staying in M/S after pressing P? This replacement C4035LS motor-drive chip is for component-level repair of compatible BMW G-Series gear-selector PCBs with a confirmed failed chip.
What this chip does
The chip drives the small lever-return motor. On the lever-style assembly shown, pressing P on the gear lever while it is in the M/S gate lets the mechanism move the lever back to the centre / automatic gate.
This is a physical sideways movement of the lever. It is separate from the console's parking-brake button and does not mean that Drive is selected.
Identify the replacement location
The annotated listing illustrations circle the replacement location beside the cream-coloured connector. The original damage-reference photograph is also included for comparison; illustrations are not a pinout or an exact PCB trace map. Match your original chip and PCB layout before ordering; similar-looking consoles are not proof of compatibility. Console part number 5A7DFD9 is the reference unit shown, not a model-wide fitment guarantee.
Reported diagnostic entries
- 5E0311 — MotorCurveFail
- 5E0401 — HallMagnetsMiscellaneous
These entries were reported in BimmerLink with a GWS malfunction on a BMW G05. Diagnostic-tool wording and classification may vary. Codes alone do not confirm a failed C4035LS chip, and replacing this chip is not a guaranteed cure for either entry.
Before replacement
Check the return motor, mechanism, power supply, wiring and surrounding drive circuit. A jammed mechanism, overloaded motor, short circuit or heat-damaged PCB must also be repaired. A burnt chip may be the consequence of another fault.
SMD soldering and electronic diagnosis required. Inspect the pads and tracks, observe component orientation, and verify correct selector operation after repair before returning the vehicle to service.
What is included
1 replacement C4035LS chip. The PCB, motor and complete console are not included. Burnt-board photos show a fault example, not the condition of the supplied part.
