Parking brake applies when you pull the console switch, but will not release when you press it? A damaged internal microswitch can stop the console from detecting one direction of movement. This two-switch kit is for component-level repair of a matching BMW G-series centre-console circuit board after the switch fault has been diagnosed.

Included: 2 × ALPS Alpine SPVQC10201 PCB-mounted microswitches. Not included: centre console, circuit board, gear selector, external parking-brake rocker/button, plastic slider, tools or installation. Professional soldering and console disassembly are required; this is not a plug-in switch assembly.

The fault this kit addresses

  • The parking brake applies when the rocker is pulled, but pressing it does not release the brake.
  • One direction of switch travel no longer registers, feels loose or has lost its normal action.
  • Inspection confirms a failed, bent or broken actuator on the matching PCB-mounted microswitch.

Replacing the faulty internal switches can restore the console's apply/release input when those switches are the cause. Similar symptoms can have other causes. This kit does not repair a broken plastic rocker/slider, liquid-damaged electronics, wiring faults, DSC/software faults, brake motors or calipers.

Check compatibility before ordering

For selected BMW G-series / Gxx centre-console control panels using the pictured switch design. Matching internal-switch repairs have been reported on G05 X5 and G20 3 Series panels. A chassis code, model year or similar-looking console alone does not confirm fitment. Other G-series models and board revisions may use different parts.

Compare the original switch's body, plunger, six solder terminals, PCB footprint and circuit arrangement. The supplied SPVQC10201 has a nominal body size of 7.4 × 15.4 × 7.5 mm (W × D × H), a push actuator and two changeover circuits (DPDT). If unsure, send us clear photos of your console, board and original switches before ordering.

Installation and safety

The console must be removed and dismantled to access the circuit board. Installation requires suitable electronics rework equipment and experience. Have a qualified automotive electronics technician diagnose the fault and carry out the repair. Follow the vehicle manufacturer's battery-isolation and service procedures, and the switch manufacturer's soldering limits.

This is a safety-related control. After repair, verify correct switch inputs and reliable parking-brake application and release according to the vehicle service procedure before returning the vehicle to use. Do not rely on automatic release as proof that a failed console switch is safe.
